Libby’s prides itself on partnering
with suppliers that focus on sustainability.
Libby’s partner, Great Giant Foods, has a deep commitment to improving soil fertility, biodiversity, and naturally increasing production yield through sustainable practices.
Practices like harvesting rainwater in order to eliminate groundwater use, the planting of +4million bio-gas plants to reduce fossil fuel usage, and recycling bromelain from pineapple stems to be used as organic fertilizer all contribute to sustainable growth.
How GGF Implements Green Practices
Great Giant Foods produces “zero waste” products. Solid and liquid waste created by their upstream as well as downstream business are recycled into other useful materials like cattle feed or to produce bromelain enzymes, an important component of organic fertilizers. By implementing green practices through the supply chain, they have reduced their fossil fuel usage by 30%, decreased the use of inorganic fertilizers by 40%, and increased the yield of their products by 40%.
